Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) Complex
IHI E&C provided basic design and EPC and assisted with plant commissioning and startup of the first fully integrated and most cost-effective MTBE complex in the world when constructed in 1992.

• Initiated commercial application of the then Phillips Company Steam Active Reforming (STAR) dehydrogenation process
• This first of a kind facility integrated technologies from several licensors to convert field butanes to MTBE, these included:
Isomerization (Engelhard)
Dehydrogenation (Phillips)
Methanol (ICI)
MTBE (Phillips)
• Completed engineering and construction in record 18 months
• Completed construction in 12 months
Bayer Corporation Bisphenol-A (BPA) Project
IHI E&C provided EPC services for a 160,000 MTPY facility. Engineering and construction were performed on a lump sum basis; equipment and materials procurement was reimbursable.
